Why Your Website Gets Traffic and No Enquiries

7 min read

Traffic without enquiries is usually a structural problem, not a design problem. Here are the four causes we find most often, roughly in order of frequency.

First: the page does not say what the business does in language a buyer uses. Internal vocabulary is the most common form of this. If your homepage headline could belong to eleven competitors, it is not doing work.

Second: there is no obvious next action. Multiple competing calls to action, or a single one buried below several screens of scrolling, both produce the same result.

Third: the objections are unanswered. Price ranges, timelines, process, and what happens after you submit the form. Visitors who cannot answer these questions on the page frequently do not ask them by email either — they leave.

Fourth: the traffic is the wrong traffic. Rankings for informational terms bring readers, not buyers. Check whether your top entry pages have any commercial intent at all before blaming the page design.

Work through those four before commissioning a redesign. Sometimes the fix is a headline and a section, not a project.
